Social Program

Sunday, June 8, 2013, 9:00 am - 4:00 pm:

Take a few minutes to review the welcome note from the Conference Organizing Committee. The committee has provided a number of things you can do in Saskatoon prior the start of the conference. With so much to offer, Saskatoon is one of Canada's most talked about tourist destinations.

Known for its hospitality and culture, Saskatchewan's largest city offers you plenty of things to do in Saskatoon just steps from the hotel. Situated on the South Saskatchewan River, Saskatoon offers fabulous restaurants, beautiful scenery, recreational activities, and great shopping. We hope you have time to explore some of our recommended local sights.

Speed Networking

If you are unsure what speed networking is well, you've probably heard of speed dating.  Now replace the romance with the intellect! Meet new prospects and contact industry colleagues with a common interest, while making new friends in a Speed Networking event, created and generously sponsored since 2008 by ASDE Survey Sampler, Inc. You will meet one on one, with one person after the other, at shortly timed intervals.

The event is a complimentary opportunity included in the full registration package. However you must indicate your interest / sign up when you register for the conference, since space is limited to 120 participants and it is usually over-subscribed. The speed networking program will take place Sunday June 8th, from 4-5pm. Once you register we ask you not to cancel or arrive late or at the last minute, otherwise persons you are pre-matched with may find themselves alone. The event will start at 4:00 pm sharp. Plan your flights accordingly!

Welcome Reception and Tradeshow

What better way to start off the 2014 MRIA Conference than with a drink with friends and colleagues that you haven’t seen for a while and get a first glimpse at our tradeshow participants! Take part in our Extreme Trivia game.  This contest highlights the exhibitors and speakers at the conference.  Bring your smartphone or tablet and use the QR-codes to gather important clues among the exhibitors in the TradeShow Hall where the Welcome Reception takes place.  For each trivia question you get right, you will earn points and be eligible to win fabulous prizes. Saskatoon Speakeasy Networking Party - Cocktails, Food Stations, and Riverboat Rides (Delta Bessborough Gardens)

We invite MRIA delegates to dine on the South Saskatchewan River and hop on board The Prairie Lily.

Experience the grandeur of the Jazz Age in the opulent gardens of Saskatoon’s famous Castle on the River, the Delta Bessborough.  As you socialize in the beautiful riverfront gardens, enjoy cuisine inspired by the era as well as Saskatchewan’s unique local specialties at various food stations situated throughout the gardens.  Grab a classic mint julep a la luge – chilled by an ice block and served with fresh mint, just like Daisy Buchanan likes it!

Join your colleagues on the Prairie Lily Riverboat to experience the Bridge City to its fullest. As you pass underneath four of Saskatoon’s nine bridges and cruise by the city centre, take in views of the beautiful natural riverbank of the South Saskatchewan river.  Even the Great Gatsby himself wouldn't miss a party like this.

Gala Awards Dinner

A Great Gatsby Inspired Vaudevillian Evening of Fun and Celebration

1920’s Attire Encouraged, But Not Required

Join us for a prohibition inspired evening of awards and vaudeville acts as we celebrate the 1920’s Speakeasy, where all levels of society partied and socialized behind closed doors. The 1920’s inspired evening will be comprised of comedy and dance, specialty cocktails, and wonderful food.  Come and meet the one and only Great Gatsby as you mingle with your friends and colleagues at the 2014 MRIA Gala Awards Dinner and cocktail reception.

Come as a flapper or come as you are
Dress as a gangster or a silent screen star
It’s going to be fun, no matter the dress
Just bring yourself and we’ll do the rest!

In the true spirit of Saskatchewan hospitality, you'll be treated to a culinary extravaganza featuring the finest foods from the province as we congratulate and recognize exceptional projects undertaken in our industry, as nominated by agencies and client-side researchers alike. Along with this year's winning submissions for Excellence in Research Awards, we also honor Fellows and Past Presidents, volunteers, chapter leadership, as well as new CMRPs. It's an integral part of the Conference experience and a perfect way to celebrate the relationships (both new and old) that are so important in our community.

And of course, you’ll want to book your flights accordingly to experience the fun surprises throughout the evening and end the conference in the Roaring Twenties.

Your Gala Dinner Ticket is included in your Conference Pass (or the one-day Tuesday Pass) – dinner tickets are also sold separately for $125 – click here.
