Saskatoon is a busy place in June so we've arranged the Sheraton Cavalier Hotel to set aside a block of rooms exclusively for MRIA conference attendees. Outside of this block of rooms the hotel is already sold out, so if you do not reserve an MRIA room then you will need to try the hotel directly across the street which is the Delta Bessborough.
The full speaker program for the MRIA Annual conference has been posted and it's the bee's knees. This year will feature a different format more akin to TED style talks along with our whiz-bang keynotes. Back in the roaring 1920's a guy named Ted was likely someone you could get anything from, and we mean anything. Fast forward to today and we promise our own 1920's inspired TED style will inform and entertain. There's so much to choose from you won't know whether to shimmy or to shake. Some topics you can expect to see discussed are:
- The epic impact of shifting demographics in Canada
- Debating whether new technologies for research are disruptive or disappointing
- The growth and application of research in the public and non-profit sectors
- Rising up and standing tall: The state of MR talent and recruitment challenges
- Predicting the future of market research and key factors influencing it's evolution
The MRIA Annual Conference happening in Saskatoon June 8-10 is excited to announce Dr. Darrell Bricker from Ipsos Global Public Affairs as a keynote speaker.
Dr. Bricker is a popular public speaker who regularly engages with audiences around the world. He is interviewed frequently in the media, appearing on CNN, the BBC, Bloomberg, and Al Jazeera, as well as on all of Canada's major television and radio networks. He's written articles for publications as diverse as Canada's Globe and Mail and France's Le Monde.
Darrell is, in fact, a prolific author. He's co-written five national bestselling books - Searching for Certainty: Inside the New Canadian Mindset (2002), What Canadians Think About Almost Everything (2005), We Know What You're Thinking (2009), Canuckology (2011), and The Big Shift (2013).
At the annual conference Darrell's keynote presentation will revolve around topics explored in his most recent book, The Big Shift. Specifically, how the political, media and business elites of Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal that ran this country for almost its entire history have lost their power to the West. Darrell argues Canada, with an ever-evolving and growing economy and a constantly changing demographic base, has become divorced from the traditions of its past and is moving in an entirely new and primarily conservative direction.

MRIA is pleased to announce that Jim Hopson, CEO and President of the Saskatchewan Roughriders Football Club (the 2013 Grey Cup Champions!), will be a keynote speaker at the MRIA 2014 National Conference in Saskatoon.
Off the field, the Riders excel as a business and achieve record profits. Long green underwear, rubber ducks with tiny green football helmets painted on them, and a foam helmet that looks like a watermelon: there’s no end to the list of things bearing the Saskatchewan Roughriders logo. The Riders’ merchandise sales account for over two-thirds of total CFL merchandise sales - more than all the other seven CFL teams combined and more than any Canadian NHL team, except Toronto and Montreal.
Jim’s roots in Saskatchewan football run deep. He began his football career in high school with the Thom Collegiate Trojans and then went on to play for the Regina Rams. He joined the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 1973, became a starter in 1974, and lined up at guard or tackle for each game during the season. Jim played four seasons with Saskatchewan and helped open holes for the likes of legendary back George Reed and protected quarterbacking great Ron Lancaster. Click here to read more.
